So. Cal. Fires Out Of Control

We have more houses burning than we have people and engine companies to fight them,” San Diego Fire Captain Lisa Blake said. “A lot of people are going to lose their homes today.”

That pretty well sums it up.  This afternoon California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a disaster emergency for seven counties where more than 11 wildfires are feeding.  The rapid growth and intensity of the fires coupled with the high winds have completely overwhelmed all firefighting resources.

The notorious Santa Ana winds are expected to continue through tomorrow, whipping the fires along until they run out of fuel.  The Malibu fire alone is expected to burn for another two or three days.

KCBS has a good STORY.
