A NIGHTCLUB WAS BURNED OUT in Villeneuve d'Ascq, France, early this morning that is already known to be an arson.  Around 4:30 am a car was used as a battering ram to break down the front door of the FabriK Club and allow the arsonists to quick entry to set the blaze.

About 70 firefighters from five communities responded to the fire and were initially hindered by metal security doors on all the entrances.  They had to be cut open with disc saws.  Four aerial master streams were used to knock down the fire by 7:20 am.

The fire caused some damage to a business next door that was unable to open today and kept 100 employees from work.  The FabriK Club has 35 employees.  This is the second nightclub in two months owned by Duquesne that has been burned.

The club's owner, Frank Duquesne accuses an unidentified competitor, "either Belgian or French" for setting the fire.  Police do not believe it was an extortion scheme because there were no prior phone calls demanding funds or making threats.  He estimates that it will take 18 to 24 months to rebuild.
