Fatal Firetruck Crash in California

Engine Was Responding On Call

A POWAY, CALIFORNIA (San Diego County), ENGINE was involved in a vehicle crash with fatality early Thursday morning.

The engine was responding to a medical call just before 4 am Pacific when it collided with a private  vehicle causing extensive damage to the car.

None of the firefighters was injured but one passenger in the car was killed.  The driver had to be extricated by the FD and was transported with life-threatening injuries.  An ambulance that was following the pumper to the call proceded on to the original destination while the FF's initiated treatment to the car's passenger.

Investigation is continuing into what caused the collision at the controlled intersection.
