Flying Lantern Starts Multi-Million £ Fire

But They're So Cute…. and FUN

A FLYING CHINESE LANTERN spent its fuel and dropped down in the middle of a plastic recycling plant in Smethwick, England, Sunday night just before midnight.  Eight minutes later a fire was underway, still undetected, that would eventually bring more than 200 firefighters to the scene an cause an estimated £6 million ($10 million) loss.

Tuesday there are still over 60 FF's working the hot spots and hidden fires in the complex as a national protest rises against allowing the incendiary decorations to be sold or used.

Surveillance cameras on the site have captured the miscreant lantern dropping into the property and starting the fire.
