This Would Tarnish Anyone’s Reputation

FOR THE SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN 2 years, a member of the South Seneca Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps in Romulus, New York, has been arrested and charged with stealing money from the squad.

The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle is reporting that:

The bookkeeper of the South Seneca Community Volunteer Ambulance Corps has been arrested and charged in connection with the theft of more than $163,000 from the organization for personal use, according to the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office.

Angel Lawrence
(no longer keeping the books)

Angel J. Lawrence, 49, of Main Street in Willard was charged with one count each of second-degree grand larceny, second-degree forgery and second-degree falsifying business records. Each offense is a felony. It is alleged Lawrence misappropriated $163,849 for her personal use while working as bookkeper for about two years ending this June.

Firegeezer is amazed that somebody would actually think that they could waltz into an organization as a new employee and immediately begin to fatten their wallet to the tune of $82,000 per year and not be noticed.

Angel was arraigned Friday and jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.  She will be returned to court Tuesday to answer the charges.

The Finger Lakes Times has MORE.

This comes just 19 months after the then-president of the rescue squad was charged with 15 counts of petit larceny for using rescue squad credit cards for his personal use.  Review that incident in Firegeezer article on January 3, 2013, HERE.

Independent audit? After the first case there should have been at least quarterly reviews of the books and accounts.
